Here is the almost finished piece.  It is a little over 2 feet across and has cooled enough that you can see its final colors (but it is still above 1000°).

The final steps involve carefully breaking the plate off the punty and placing it into a temperature-controlled oven to slowly cool  to room temperature over night.  After cooling, the bottom is ground flat and signed.
