Jeff dips the bubble into the molten glass several times in order to gather the amount of glass that he wants. Here he has gathered additional glass four times and is using a larger wooden block to keep it in a spherical shape.  Although it is not obvious from these still photos, the blowpipe must be continually rotated to keep the hot ball of glass from flowing off.  The hotter the glass the faster it must be rotated.  In this photo the glass is about the consistency of thick honey.
